Atlanta Facts

Atlanta is the fastest growing city in the United States (total population)

Atlanta is the only city in North America that has been destroyed by fire as an act of war.

The land constituting the city of Atlanta was once a Native American village called Standing Peachtree. The land that became the Atlanta area was stolen from the Cherokee and Creeks by white settlers in 1822, with the first area settlement being Decatur.

Atlanta weather is mostly mild. July and August can get hot and humid, just as normal snowfall totals for December and January reach 1-1 ' inches per year. The ideal times of year to visit, weather-wise, are the spring and fall.

Atlanta is home to four professional sports teams: Braves (Baseball), Falcons (Football), Hawks (Basketball) and Thrashers (Hockey).
